DISCOVER THE HANDICRAFTS OF A GENUINE BRIAR PIPE WITH A "MAITRE PIPIER DE SAINT-CLAUDE".
Our workshop is located in the cradle of the briar pipe: Saint-Claude, in the Jura mountain, France.
Going down through the alleyways of Saint-Claude, you will find near the river our workshop, where we have managed to keep the charming memory of the ancient way of working. At the end of the 19th century, the machines we still work with today were driven by the force of the water coming down from the mountains.
Our pipe workshop is opened Monday to Friday, 9 to 11.30 am and 2 to 6 pm, and Monday to Saturday in July and August.
The demonstration takes about 20 minutes where you will be able to watch the main steps of the making of a pipe, starting from the piece of briar, called “ébauchon”, to the polishing of the pipe.
You will also find in our shop the different objects made in wood by the Jurasian craftsmen: boxes, toys…
For parties (at least 15 visitors), the pipe workshop is opened 7 days a week throughout the year, upon reservation. Call 0033 384 450 047 or e-mail.
